Randy
Blandford, 1st Assistant ChiefRandy currently serves as Assistant Chief with the
department with more than 25 years in the fire service. He first began his
career in 1984 after enlisting into the United States Navy. While serving,
Randy attended several naval firefighting schools that included NTTC Fleet
Training Center, San Diego Ca., NTTC Treasure Island, San Francisco Ca., and
NTTC Long Beach Naval Station, Long Beach Ca. where he earned certifications
in Advanced Shipboard Firefighting, Aviation Firefighting and Rescue, Gas
Free Engineering, Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Decontamination, and
Shipboard Damage Control.
Randy was stationed on board the USS Missouri BB-63 and assigned to
Repair Division which spearheaded the firefighting efforts ship wide. He
served as on-scene leader with the In-Port Fire Party, the At-Sea Flying
Squad, and the Aircraft Crash and Rescue Team.
Randy began serving the Sorgho community in 1991 and over the years he
has steadily progressed thru the ranks to his current position. Randy was
selected Firefighter of The Year in 1998 and 2007 and has more than 2500
training hours.
Randy is employed at near by Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Owensboro Mill,
as an operations technician and also serves as Assistant Chief with their
